CD Reviews: Ty Williams

Ty Williams is not your typical country singer, let alone your typical 24-year-old. Ty recently served in the National Guard in Iraq earning the rank of Sergeant and where he realized that music is not just a past time.

His debut album is a fresh new take on country music today. With a country rock jazz feel, mixed with some quick spit lyrics and a funky horn section (Yeah, that’s right a horn section) this album is sure to be pleasing to the ear and fun for your feet.

His single, “Barn On The Rooftop” is a song about bringing a bit of country to the big city. The two coincide with his eclectic mix and style and his ability allowing the listener to indulge in the guilty pleasure of country life and play. “Smooth” as Ty puts it is, “A song for the ladies” and is an anthem to the female prowess in seduction with a groove you’d like to sink your teeth into. The message in “More” is directed to the American people encouraging them to change their attitudes from selfish to selfless and to change the world for the better with an honest and truthful lyric that will make you sit back and say, “He’s right.”

This unique new artist is surely not going anywhere soon and has the potential to pave the road for other up and comers with a non-traditional style. With a different sound as a whole it may take some time to get used to, but the songs we tend to like are never the ones we only listen to once. This is surely not your Grandfather's country music, but if you are looking for some new ear candy, or are just tired of the same old stuff check Ty out.
